Elon Musk and Twitter
Elon Musk seems to be on his way to buy Twitter. News during the past couple of hours seem to suggest that the Tesla founder and Dogecoin enthusiast has offered to buy the micro-blogging site for $43 billion dollars. The week prior, it was widely reported that the Twitter board did not want Musk to buy the site. In fact, the Twitter board unanimously voted to adopt a shareholder rights plan which is nicknamed the “poison pill” to ward off Musk. In this scenario, the “poison pill” would be executed if Elon Musk buys 15% of Twitter’s shares; after which new Twitter stocks would be introduced to the market and every shareholder, besides Musk, would be able to buy those stocks. In effect, Musk’s stake in the company would be diluted. Now, however, Everything seems to have changed. Rumors are spreading like wildfire that Twitter is close to accepting Elon’s Musk offer and news could be announced as early as today. But what does this mean for Dogecoin?
Elon Musk to add Dogecoin Twitter Tipping Option
Dogecoin is Elon Musk’s favorite cryptocurrency and he often tweets about it. The multi-billionaire mogul often mentions the coin whenever he tweets and wants the shiba inu themed crypto to become the de facto payment option on earth. So how will Elon Musk integrate Dogecoin into Twitter? Some have suggested that Elon Musk plans to add an option for twitter users to tip influencers with Dogecoin. Dogecoin Co-Founder Billy Markus started a Change.org petition to add a Dogecoin Tip Jar to Twitter Tips on February 18, 2022.
Elon Musk and Billy Markus are known to be in contact with each other so this topic might have been something they’ve discussed in the past. Currently, Twitter users can tip their favorite influencers in fiat, Ethereum and Bitcoin. When we compare gas fees and speed, Dogecoin has Ethereum and Bitcoin beat. Dogecoin has lower gas fees than Ethereum and has a faster transaction speed than Bitcoin. Twitter users will be more willing to pay their favorite influencers in Dogecoin because it is less expensive and the payment occurs instantaneously. Since Musk is Dogecoin’s number one fan, it’s more than likely he might add Dogecoin as a tipping option for twitter.
